Kristina Collins, MD, FAAD

About Dr. Collins

Dr. Kristina Collins is a board-certified dermatologist who specializes in Mohs micrographic surgery and surgical and cosmetic dermatology. She graduated Summa cum Laude with a B.S. in Microbiology and B.S. in Political Science from the Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University. After selection for the prestigious Canby Robinson Scholarship, she earned her M.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She was named Tennessee Woman in Medicine of the Year after co-founding a free medical clinic for the uninsured in the Nashville area. Her brainchild, Shade Tree Family Clinic, continues to grow and provide much needed care to thousands of uninsured patients every year. During her residency in dermatology with the Harvard Combined Dermatology Program, she was trained in the medical and surgical management of skin disorders and had the opportunity to work at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess, Boston Children's Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Lahey Clinic. She then completed a Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology fellowship at the Lahey Clinic and Harvard Dermatology specializing in skin cancer treatment and reconstruction, laser surgery, and cosmetic dermatology. During fellowship, she held academic teaching appointments with both Harvard Department of Dermatology and Tufts University.

Dr. Collins has lectured and presented original research at local, regional and national conferences on topics such as surgery techniques, rare skin disorders and the representation of dermatology in the national media. She has written articles and news stories for ABC and has served as a dermatology expert for video and written news published by ABC News in New York. She contributed to and wrote stories for Good Morning America and World News. She currently represents the American Board of Dermatology on the American Family Physician's Editorial Advisory Board. She has been an active member of the Women's Dermatologic Society and served on the Young Physicians' Task Force, the Communications Committee and as an invited participant for the Executive Board. She served as chairperson of the Editorial Board for the WDS. She is also an invited member of the Patient Advocacy Committee of the American Academy of Dermatology. Her college, Arizona State, recognized her career in 2015 with an award for the top 20 distinguished alumni.

Dr. Collins was appointed a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology in 2011 and is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American College of Mohs Surgery. She has received fellowship training accredited by both the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology (ACMMSCO) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Dr. Collins currently resides in Austin, TX, and works in private practice in Austin and surrounding communities.
